Matéria Adentro: exploring new possibilities with local materials
At Proactivetur, we believe that a territory is more than just landscape — it is material, knowledge, and potential for transformation.
It is within this context that the creative residency “Matéria Adentro – New Products Based on Endogenous Materials” emerges. We are organising this initiative for CCDR Algarve as part of the Programme for the Development of New Products Based on Endogenous Materials Inspired by the Mediterranean Diet, integrated into the INOVA ALGARVE 3.0 project and co-funded by ERDF – Algarve Regional Programme 2030.
This programme reinforces a path we know well — valuing local resources through experimentation, collaboration, and the connection between tradition and innovation. A path also developed through the Projecto TASA, where traditional materials and knowledge are reinterpreted into contemporary applications. With this programme, however, we take a step further.
Experiment, co-create, transform
“Matéria Adentro” is, above all, a space for experimentation.
Here, natural materials from the Algarve — often overlooked or undervalued, such as giant reed or oyster shells — become the starting point for developing new applications in architecture and bio-construction. Throughout the residency, producers, designers, architects, and other local stakeholders work together, combining technical knowledge with traditional know-how.
The goal? To explore the potential of these materials in order to enhance their economic and cultural value, while contributing to a more sustainable relationship with the territory.
Matéria de Conversa: opening the process to the community
Sharing is an essential part of this process. That’s why we are hosting open sessions for the public — moments for gathering, listening, and reflecting on the materials being explored.

Telheiros of Santa Catarina: a living heritage
A conversation dedicated to traditional tile-makers (“telheiros”), not only as a profession, but as a living expression of local identity.
More than a presentation, this will be a space where the community, the artisans themselves, and other participants are invited to share experiences and perspectives. We aim to reflect on current challenges, as well as future possibilities for this traditional knowledge.

So Much Reed — Walk · Talk · Workshop
Reed is everywhere. It grows quickly, it is resilient — and is often seen as a problem.
But what if we look at it as a resource?
In this session, we invite participants to spend a day in the field exploring the potential of reed in construction and design. Through a combination of walking, discussion, and hands-on experimentation, we will discover new ways of working with this widely available material.
