GET TO KNOW THE ALGARVE
ROCHA DA PENHA
With its 470m of altitude, "Rocha da Pena" is a landmark in the region. Formed by a steep cliff of limestone, with an average height of 50m, and a plateau of 2km in length, this place was once occupied permanently by humans who left there vestiges of its presence.
Today it is a classified area, where the human presence is irregular and punctual, especially marked by the few farmers who go there to deal with their nuts, especially carob production, by hikers and climbers.
BENEMOLA’S FOUNTAIN
The main natural attraction of Querença, Fonte da Benémola, is a special place with unique characteristics in Algarve: permanent water flow, known by its curative properties, and its enormous biodiversity represented by hundred of plants and animal species, specially birds.
Many of them will be seen along this easy tour with the help of an expert guide that will also explain the rich cultural history of this valley. A small region with a big natural and cultural heritage. A great tour for family groups!
INTO THE CORK WOODS
A hike in the heart of the Serra do Caldeirão, starting and finishing in the small village of Barranco do Velho (Loulé), a land of cork production. This is an attractive option for those who like to walk for several hours in the middle of nature, with an experienced and expert guide, through dense cork oak forests, with the presence of impressive centenary trees.
The rich occurrence of fauna and flora will be a constant on this route, whether it's the numerous of aromatic plants or forest birds, including the rare Bonelli's Eagle.
THE ALGARVE REGION STEP BY STEP
VIA ALGARVIANA
There is an Algarve unknown to many, far from the beaches and the crowds. An essentially rural, ancient Algarve, full of history, culture and nature. A territory where tranquillity and isolation prevail. Where people still live to the rhythm of nature's cycles, happy and with few worries. This is the Algarve we want to reveal to you.
Over the course of an 8-day programme in autonomy, we propose a trip on the Via Algarviana, between Alcoutim and Salir, through the Algarve's most unpopulated and oldest region, but one of its most genuine and authentic. The route crosses hills, farmland, river valleys - such as the beautiful Ribeira da Foupana - small mountain villages and allows close contact with the local people who will be our hosts on this adventure. The accommodation is high quality, family-run, the meals home-cooked and the socialising lively and carefree.
ROTA VICENTINA
Not all the Algarve's south coast is massively occupied! There are some precious areas where one can walk freely and get immersed in nature. And this is the perfect tour for it! Discover the secrets of the southwestern coast of the Algarve by doing a self-guided walk between Lagos and Carrapateira, discovering the Natural Park “Sudoeste Alentejano e Costa Vicentina” and the south part of Rota Vicentina track. This walk will match the future extension of Rota Vicentina to Lagos!
Set off on an adventure and marvel at the views over the sea and at the huge natural and cultural heritage of this area. Along the way you will contemplate the immense blue sea and the colorful geology of the slopes and cliffs, some of them volcanic. You will get across through wild beaches, observe some remains of historical heritage (e.g. ruins of Figueira fortress and Almadena), watch some birds from the region, namely the Peregrine Falcon or the Blue Rock-thrush, visit the southwest point of Europe – the Cape S. Vincent – and walk along the west coast, one of the most beautiful of Europe. We add special places to stay, cozy and comfortable small hotels and guesthouses, and also a great opportunity to taste some local and traditional food! Join us and get into a unknown natural Algarve!
